When Jonathan and I registered for our wedding at Honeyluna we had no idea how it was going to pan out. We knew one thing: we were going to Italy in December. We still weren’t entirely sure where (Rome, Florence…where else?) or exactly when. We were on the receiving end of so much generosity, and I looked at Pensiones and high end hotels. We would do it with a combo of both, but there was one VERY important element missing in all of them: Jonathan wanted to cook. See, he cooks, well, and in the country of his ancestry, he wanted to get fresh ingredients and make stuff. Stuff like this:
So I went another direction: what if we rented an apt? This is where HomeAway came to the rescue. I had heard of it, but never used it. HomeAway and their parent, VRBO, have tons and TONS of apartments all over the world for rent. Places owned by locals, furnished, some are small, some are large, some are luxurious, some are plain – but never once did I see a bad review. All the places looked great!
We chose these two in Italy:
(halfway between Rome and Florence)
and this one in Paris:
The best part is these places are SO CHEAP. Instead of $80-100 per night in a hotel, we’re paying $350-$400 per WEEK for our own place. Our own cozy home.
So thank you HomeAway. We look forward to our honeymoon. If you ever need a travel writer, call me.
